What has been happening at Wassand?

Are you

A, a Teacher looking for an outdoor environment to visit with your class?

B, a Parent or Grandparent looking for woodland walks with child friendly activities and delicious cake?

Or C, An inquisitive regular visitor?

In April 2016 Wassand Hall was awarded a Heritage Lottery Grant to renovate the stable block into a classroom, exhibition space and toilet facilities for school groups and activity sessions. Builders have raised the roof and work is set to continue as the weather gets hotter.

Blue sky thinking at Wassand!

Wassand is a magical and inspirational place where children can explore, discover and record their ideas. As you’ll see from the website we have beautiful woodland, shady ponds and a stumpery. During the next few months we are developing courses for schools that focus on the Wassand environment and biodiversity whilst linking to the National Curriculum.

Did you know May was National Walking Month?

Open days at Wassand are a great opportunity to get into the woodland with the family, tree spotting, finding leaves and pine cones are some of the activities that some of our younger visitors have enjoyed. Here are George, Isobel, Jessica and Master Totally Awesome (on his t-shirt) with their Spotting sheet and Journey Sticks.

Big Butterfly Count

As the weather gets warmer I’m looking forward to the ‘Big Butterfly Count’ which is an activity children will be able to take part in at Wassand. Very simple, find a spot to sit in for 15 minutes and try to record as many butterflies as you can in that time. You can then log your sightings online. This is one of the self-led activities at Wassand which can be picked up from the admission hut.

We’ll be giving out sheets on the Sat 15th July, Wed 2nd, Thurs 3rd, Fri 4th and Sun 6th of August (open 2-5pm)

CHILDREN 10 AND UNDER ARE FREE!!

Wassand Junior Wardens
